That Was Good Enough.

The boy was sitting lazily in the stern of the boat, dangling his feet in the water, when a man from the dock called sharply to him: “What are you doing there?” he said. “Nothin’,” responded the boy. “Do you get any pay for it?” “Nope.” And he drew one foot out of the water, ready to run if need were. “Why don’t you go to work?" “Will you give me a job?” “ Yes. ” “Steady.” “Y 08. n “Pay anything?” “Well, no,” hesitated the man, “not the first week.” “How about the second?” “Then I will.” “All right; I'll come around the second week.
