Out in the blue grass rountry they are telling this romantio story about William Henry Harriepn, grandlhtnerof the present occupant of the White House: .When he.was only 20 years of age he wooed Ml#s Monarchy Fohwlck. n bewitching muidenof Frankfort., Ky., but did not meet with favor. Upon parting with the girt he placed a ring on her linger, saying: “Monarchy, when lam President of the United States, send this ring to mo with any request you may have to makoi and I will grant whatever you ask if lr is In my power." Smiling at the jest, so the story goes, she took tho valuable circlet and placed It among her treasures. When she next saw her old admirer she was the wife of Judge Samuel Todd, a wealthy and prominent citizen, and had become a famous housekeeper of wide hospitality. He had beon eleoted President of the United States and was en route via Frankfort to his lnauaural ci remonies. At the Kentueky capital he accepted her invitation to dine. The Presidential suite comprised twelve persons, some in carriages, others on horseback, The ring was not presented according to fairy-tale nsage, but was retailed as an heirloom.
