Thn reoect eonflict is the outcropping, th« legitimate fruit, of republican legislation in the interests of capital. We find Carnegie bached by a prohibitory tariff, given him, say our republican friends, that he may increase the wages of the man who produce his wealth, actually announcing a rednotion and . greeting a lock-out because they insist his terms are below the living point. We find him, too, employing armed Pinkertons to enforce his edicts. There are Repaid cans who are in some doubt as to the kind of legislation needed to seonre an honest ballot," eto.— Rensselaer Republican. Comi .g from a beneficiary of the *bl’ks of five” methods; a resident of the State of Harrison and Dudley, the originators and manipulators of that plan ‘to secure an honest(?) ballot,” the above item is certainly cool and refreshing.

The Evils es Indirect Taxation. The indirect system of taxation works so indirectly and so subtly, as President Harrison says, that “the plain people don’t know they are paying any taxes to the government at all.” Harrison, in his statement, confesses that the system exists in lieu of the ignorance of tide plain people, the masses, the workingmen of the country. Shame on such statesmanship! such hypocracyl That would perpetuate an unjust system of taxation, because the plain people in their ignorance don’t know they pay the taxea This is a line confession of a great man to make. No man can deny that the burden of an indirect system of taxation rests on the masses in favor of the classes and those who do not see it, should study the question, free from prejndice, so they may learn the truth, for the truth alone makes men free.
