Playing Cards.
Dr. Rudolph Lothan, of Vienna, says this year “is the fifth century of the playing card.” He says the first game of cards ever played was Tarok or Naili; in which every card was symbolic of “a phase ofTife, nrdegree of knowledge, or one of the powers ruling human existence. ” One of the pasteboards was named *ll Miserp,” doubtless our knave, and was easily involved in all sort of unpleasant complications.
