The original portrait of Washington (right side of the face) by Gilbert Stuart, hng thought to have been destroyed by the artist, seems to have been recognized in the hands of Dr. W. F. Channing, of California, who Inherited it from his distinguished father, Rev. William Ellery Channing, who obtained it from his uncle, Colonel Gibbs. Science.
