Mr. Charles Bruce and wire ar* visiting relatives and friends in Rensselaer and vicinity. Surveyor Thrawls, after a week’s wrestle with the grip, was able to be about again Monday. Banker, of Valparaiso, preached the dedicatory sermon. Revs. Gorby, b erguson, Drake and McGuire took part in the exercises. Rev. U. M. McGuire, pastor of the church, was presented a handsome family bible on ‘die nc-'fision, by a number of friends, as ato vof love end esteem. Thursday afternoon of last week Dr. Vic. E. Loughridge amputated the left hand of Sam P«owers, of near Julian, made necessary by acorn husking machine. S. P. Howard, formerly a resident of Rensselaer, died at his home, Wichita, Kansas, Friday morning of last week.

The ice harvest is on, and our ice men are putting up large supplies of good quality. Fredeiick Walter, infant son of John and May Eger, died today, aged 6 months and 22 days. Last Friday ev ning E. P. Honan d scovered a fire in Vick’s news depot in time to prevent a blaze. It is supposed a lighted cigar thrown in a spitbox was the cause. The Orphans’ Banjo, Mandolin and Guitar Club will appear before a Monou audience next Monday evening. The boys are worthy of a good house. Last Friday afternon the tenement house on a farm belonging to John Makeevei, a tew miles northwest of town, was destroyed by fire. John Guss, sr., of Union township, is said to be dangerously ill. J. W. Pierce and wife, south of of town, are quite ill with lu.jg fever, the li tie girl aud hired man are also on tim rick iibt, the hired girl alone retaining health. Miss Tillie Scbanlaub, of Mt.
