Henry Bari;ley was a native of Ireland, first located in Pennsylvania; came to this county i., 1837 ami settled in what is now Barkley township. The township was named for him, he being an old settler and a prominent man in the community. He was an Irish Presbyterian of the true b'ue kind, had baeD an elder in the church where he came from, was one of the first elected in this church, and served faithfully until God called him to his reward. He lived to an old age loved and respected by •til who knew him. He died in 1857, leaving a widow and nine children. Bix of them are still iivmg, some of whom are members of the Presbyterian church. Luci da Mahaflie, when the churcli organized, lived with her husband on the farm now owned by J. C. Porter, of this place. The, sold their farm and went to Kansas about the year 1854 where they aie living—or wore a short iime ago. I should have stated above that Ezra Wright and Ira Allen were both elders in the church. After ajlapse of 44 years we note \ there are but two or three of the : original members now living.
