Aaron’s Black Suit.
Parents are sometimes loath to relinquish their parental authority even when their sons and daughters are men and women, and ought to be learning to think for themselves. A tall, awkward, and painfully diffident young man.of twenty-one or twentytwo years went into a clothing store, accompanied by a short, active, grid keen-eyed little woman, whose selfpossession was perfect. “Let us see some black suits of some kind,” said she. “About what price, madam?” “Something not too high, nor yit so cheap as to be good for nothing:” “Yes, ma’am. Is the suit for this syoupg gentleman?” “Yes. ’Ye you any idee ’bout what you want, Aaion?” “I’d like one of them shiny black suits,” meekly replied Aaron. The mother shook her head. “Well, I don’t know, ” said she. “I’m doubtful ’bout them wearin’ well, an’ I b’lieve I’d better get you a nice cassimere.” “All right,” said Aaron, resignedly. The clerk led the way to a counter piled high with rather cheap black suits, and the mother began: “How do you like this, Aaron?” “I don’t know.” “Well, look at it, boy, and see whether you think you’d like it.” “I guess so.” “Well, I want you to make up your mind now, And not go to wishin’ you’d got something'else as soon as you git home. ” The amusement of the clerk was increased when, after carefully examining suit after suit without coming to a decision, the old lady whispered: “You may show me something a little mite better’n any of these! I wouldn't be so pertickler, but it’s his weddin’ suit I’m gittin’, an’ I feel as though I’d like him to lQok half decent on sich an occasion. D’you think you’d be satisfied to stand up in this one, Aaron?” “Yes’m.” Then the twain departed smiling, and the polite clerk went into the back shop to roar over the incident with his fellows.
