A Woman of Determination.
Some time ago the Post contained a story of a woman at Sandy Lake, Mercer County, who calmly pulled a bell rope and stopped a running train in order that she might call up her son and bid him good-by r e. This illustrated the statement that every passenger conductor at some time in his career met With some cool exhibition of female nerve that made each particular hair of his conductoriulhead to stand on end. Anothor story- illustrating, although in a different manner, woman’s real nerve comes from a nearby- town. A few days ago, us ono of tho evening trains on n nearby short line had neared the end of its run, tho coat-sleevo of the conductor, who wus passing down tho uisle, was grasped by a woman, who told him that he hud forgotten to stop the train three stations back, where she should have got off, and where her ticket called for. Bhe demanded that the train be backed to that station. He laughingly refused her demand. She insisted nnd quoted Blackstone in support of her rights until the cold sweat stood out on his conductorial brow. He argued, but she was inexorable, and finally he backed tho truiu to the roquired station, much to the disgust of tho remainder of the passengers, but to the satisfaction of the woman. —[Pittsburg Post.
