This Year and Last.

Last year President Harrison and Mr. McKinley inveighed against cheapness, and declared that “a cheap coat means a cheap man.” This year ail the Republican speakers and organs are trying to show that pretty much everything, including a coat, is cheapen than before the new tariff law was passed. Last year every Protectionist newtpaper declared that a higher tariff was necessary in order to prevent the “flooding of the home market with foreign goods. ” This year they are boasting of increased importations.—N.
