The Koreans have a peculiar way of building a wall by erecting two parallel partitions, between which they pour piaster or mud, and then removing the partitions when the material solidifies. When I was in Seoul an examination of Students occurred, and the subject then chosen was a text from one of the classio authors to the effect that as the boards serve to give shape to the mortar, so do honest and upright statesmen “mold the fabric of the nation. The students were required to write a poem in blank verse on the subject. The Woman of the Future. The coming woman will appreciate the rast difference between modesty and prudery. She will not allow her daughter to loarn lessons which must be of vital importance to her from any but the maternal lips. She will not be deluded by the fallacy that ignorance and inuocenoe are synonymous terms. She will teach her children that there is evil in the world, and that it is to be shunned and avoided, and that in order to escape the pitfalls set for the unwary they, her children, must know what aod wbern is.-

This is the first day of July, 1891, and upon this uay, under the McKinley ini. qui y. the tariff on tin plate is raised from one cent a pound to two and two-tenth cents a pound—an increase of 12ftper cent, ad valorem. Meanwhile, all the tin plate that Europe had to sell has been brought over here, the steamers of the last week carrying nearly 500,000 cases. All this, and the millions of cases imported since ‘he outrageous law passed, will be staffed into the bogus tin-plate manufactories and sold as American tin. Meanwhile our people long have been, and long will b , paying three prices for their tin goods in consequence of this unmitigated outrage. That was what was intended. The bogus manufacturers are already rich, altho’ they have never manufactured, and sre not ncliued to do so. But they wilt elp to put in a hansome campaign fund for McKinley all the same. And yet if the American people car. tamely submit to the tin-plate fraud, and the pearl-button fraud, and a hundred other frrud# contained in that same McKigley bill, then there is little hope for them. It is not believed that the have not anv intention to . übmit.—Cincinnati Inquirer, July 1.
BUTTHEY AREFREETRADEAGENCIES. 'Cincinnati Enquirer.] A good many Republican leaders are felicitating themsel es that a big crop this year will help to get Major McKinley out of the woods. “A bountiful crop and the fanners will be with us on the ‘protection' 18806.“ say they. Just why a good crop sho :li impel the farmers to vote to 'a\ themselves unnecessarily under the guise of “protect!,n“ is not altogether clear. The warm suu-hine an 1 the invigorating rain are the piime fa tors of plentiful harvests. But they car not be said to bo the edu t of a high tariff. They both come in under absolute free trade. The same sunshine and the same rain stimulate the germ and ripen the harvests tvery-where that harvests grow and ripen. The science of robbing the rnanv for the benefit of the few by imposi- g a t iriff ax on rain and sutisbii e, the cireumau'bi nt air and the cooling breeze has not yet been reduced to an exact sc en -e. If it had be-n the.e wou;d hav e been a stiong plank in the Columbus platform imposing a heavy tax upon them. hy shoal , the farmers vote for the robber tariff bo-ause the two g,eit untaxed agencies bring them the wherewith to pay their other taxes/ Farmers wanting Mowers, Binders and Binding Twine call on Coen & Paxton, agents for the Buckeye.
