Democratic Sentinel, Volume 15, Number 21, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 12 June 1891 — Cannibalistic Alligators. [ARTICLE]

Cannibalistic Alligators.

“Arkansaw,” the alligator slayer oi East Orange, Fla., recently killed one of the • ‘varmints” that had three of its legs bitten off, a portion of the jaw had been eaten by a stronger kinsman, and holes were found in him where he had paid the penalty of n pound of flesh, simply because his opponent was the stronger. Arkansaw states that alligators feed upon each other to the extent that regulates the supply to the demand, and that if they were to cease from their cannibalistic Imbiis they would soon abound in . sufficient numbers to pile alligato-5 four feet deep all over the Si John’s river wuntry.
