Grains of Gold.

We should give God the same place in. our hearts that he holds In the universe. You cannot repent too soon, because you do not know how soon it may be too late. Do all that you can to stand, and then fear lost you may fall, and by the grace of God you are safe. The proverb ought to run, “A fool and his words are soon parted; a man of gen* ius and his money. ” To rejoice in the happiness of others is to make it our own; to produce it is to make it more than our own. Goon breeding is benevolence in trifles, or the preference of others to ourselves in the daily occurrence of life. You had better send a son unarmed and helpless into a wilderness of ferocious wild animals than into the world without education. The current of tenderness widens as it proceeds, and two men imperceptibly find their hearts filled with good nature for each other, when they are at first tally Tn pursuit of mirth or relaxation. TiiE thoroughly great men are those who have done everything thoroughly, and who have never despised anything, however small, of Gbd’s making. They that govern most make least noise. You see when they row in a barge, they that do .drudgery work, slash, and puff, and sweat; but he that governs sits quiety at the stern and scarcely is seen to stir. ' :
