The Democratic LegislatuieHyf Indiana is in working trim. Let the pledges o the people be kept. Hoar and his Force bill is or the down grade, and John Sherman and his silver bill of last ses siou will very likely be switched on the same track. Republican senators and representatives are slow to conclude that the people are the sovereigns, and they the servants. Last week one day our attention was called to some strictures con-* tained in the Mt. Ayr News, Hit we preferr d to have our neighbor adopt it before giving it any at-< tention. , We suggest to the News that it copy article on first column editorial page of the Republican of this week —manufactured by the Tariff League as food for gudgeons.
The infamous Republican Force bill was given its quietus the other day in the United States senate. Eight reDublioan senators voted with the democrats *? to displace it with the silver bill. loor old Hoar is in danger of going down into his political grave broken hearted. He declares it will kill the republican party. May the Lord hasten the day when that event shall oecnr. Better wo old it have been for the country had that party never been born!
The Republican organs declared that the increase in price of eve* rything in daily use by the people as a result of the enactment of the McKinley bill, was not an actual fact, but was falsely rushed upon the people to influence the elections. But nevertheless it was « fact, and is a fact— prices continue to rise; and the democratic press believe this should be continually kept before the people, in 01 - der that they shall meet it with tb6 only lawful weapon placed in their hands —the ballot.*: Such republican organs as the Mt. Ayr Hews and Rensselaer Republican think it only right that the people should pay high t.ibule to the wealthy monopolists ;and denounce democratic journals that inform the masses they are far from getting value received for their expenditures. The people are deeply interested in the laws being enacted, and, we shall endeaver to keep them posted, even to the exs elusion of c uch slash softsoap; fcy the News and Republican misnamed ‘local news.’
