Wedding-Present Extortionists.
Our East Indian cousins are limited by legislature in the quantity and quality of ■wedding gifts. The bridegroom is provided with his share as well as the bride a most equitable arrangement. The father or guardian of tihe bride has to bestow a little nuptial offering upon the father of the bridegroom, the amount of which is limited by law. The bridegroom gives his mjttber-in-law a little gift ns he touches thd fringe of her dress, and the bride prostrates he'self before her mother-in-law with an equal gift. The number of dinner parties given by the bride’s family must not be more than five; and the number of guests bo .l-ese.tban twentv-five. For some unacdount'ame reason, instead of the grandparents ••iving all their substance t<qffb« ffet child which appears, the bride and her family must make presents to tjm huafeand’t family.
