The power of the snake to charm was demonstrated near Litchfield, Conn., the other day. Miss Peikms and her brother went out to gather arbutus nnd became separated. Miss Perkin* snis she was bending over to pick flowers, and as she tr ed to rise she saw an adder gazing at her. bhe tried to run awav, but could not, aid she was not even able to turn her head. As her brother came up and shot the suake, she says, she was growing dizzy. It was the flathead odder, three feet in length.
