Mr. C. was deputy auditor of Jasper county during the term of the late H. A. Barkley, and r.-as held in high esteem by all who formed his acquaintance. On the expiration of his term in the auditor’s office he was appointed clerk of the Prison North, and after some years service in that institution he was offeied a position in the Surveyor General’s office, Dakota, which he accepted, and from which he was retired| last August by the Harrisonian administration. In all the positions he has filled—civil and military—ho - proved a capalle, efficient and popular official.
