Glorious Victory. OHIO. lOWA. VIRGINIA. NEW YORK. Maryland. NEW JERSEY. MISSISSIPPI. Democratic by big majorities! In Ohio Campbell, Democratic candidate for Governor, vks elected by from 10,000 to 15,000, and the Legislature D< mocratic. lowa. Democratic Governor, and probably other state officers and the legiclature. In Virginia, Mahone, the rebel brigadier, republican candidate for governor, snowed unde by 42,000. New York and New Jersey big Democratic In Maryland, too, the Democratic vietory was complete. In Mississippi Fort Pillow Chalmers, the republican candidate for governor, withdrew from -he race, and the Democracy had li tie or no oppositin. In Massachusetts, the Republican majority of 33,000 has been reduced to 0,000 Nebraska, too, showing considerable republican reduction. Pennsylvania alone shows an increased Republican majority. —* Columbus, 0., Nov. 6.-The Ho n - Groyer Cleveland, New York— Gov. Foraker has surrendered all the republican flags in Ohio. , Allen W, Thubman.
Indianapolis h’eutiner: The dimensions of the democratic victoiies of Tuesday were not fully understood y. *sterd.°y morning. It is hard even now to realise their ouu - nitude. Jus! think of it! Oh o democratic, both on governor nmi legislature; Virginia overwhelms mgly democratic; New York demo craticby a great big inajoriiy; Now Jersey ditto; lowa democratic; :he republican majority in Massachusetts reduced fr'un 33,000 last year to a beggarly 6,000 or 7,000; Maryland handsomely democratic. As the enthusiastic Kentucky farmer, quoted by Mr. Watterson’s Cour-ier-Journal, remarked: “Ground swell, be d — d; it’s an earthquake! 5 ’ Washington, November 7.-Ex-President Cleveland was intei viewed last on the election returns. “It is evident,” said Mr. Cleveland, “that the leaven of tariff reform has at last leave ed the wboJe lump. The West, which has suffered the most from the umjust burden of tariff taxation, has awah, ened; The State platforms of both lowa and Ohio were abreast of the St* Louis platform on the subject of tariff reform. The people have considered and passed judgment. It was for the people to decide The / are new deciding. “It is enough to say that I am satisfied at ihe indications and re suits of Tue day s elections. The verdict in Virginia indicates that the South is still faithful to the Democracy of Jefferson and JackSDH. Let the watchcry of Democracy continue to be “Tariff Reform 1”
Mb 1.f.. “ Whv, Addle, yon needn't cahoot it! I only Bald Mrs. Allen wsb a veiy wellinformed woman, and I wished yon would follow her example.” Mrs. Lee. ‘‘Yes, and last week yon said yon wished I could manage to look as stylish as Mrs. Allen,—and she makes all her own clothes. But she has what I haven’t.” Mb. Lee. ‘‘What Is that!” .. .. , . Mrs. Lbb. “ Well, she gets all of her Information from the Magazine they take. I admit that she knows all that is going on, and Is bright and entertaining in conversation; bnt I coma do as well as she does if 1 had the same source of information. She lent me the last number of her Magazine lately, and I learned more In one hour’s reading, abont various social matters and the topics of the day, than I would pick up in a month by my occasional chats with friends. It certainly covers every topic of Interest, from the news of the day down to the details of housekeeping; and everything Is so beautifully illustrated, too. Every time Mamie goes over to the Aliens’ she comes back and teases me to get yon to take Demorest’s Family Magazine, as the stories are ao good. Even the boys watch for it every month, as a place is found for them also in its pages; and Mr. Allen swears by it. It is really wonderful how It suits every member of the family I ” Mr. Lbb. ‘‘Well, perhaps I had better send for a Specimen Copy; for, If it m anything like what yon say it is, it will amuse and instruct the whole of us. ” Mrs Lbb. “I see that W. Jennings Demorest, the publisher, 16 East 14th Street, New York, is offering to send a Specimen Copy for 10 cents, so we can’t lose anything, as each number contains a ‘Pattern Order’ entitling the holder to any Pattern she may choose, and in any size-which alone makes each copy worth 80 cents; and I just want a Jacket pattern like Mrs. Allen’s. The subscription price is only $2.00 a year; and I must say 1 can’t see bow they can publish SO elegant a Magazine for so little money.”
