THE NEW SCHOOL BOOKS. There has been much talk by the opponents of the new school book law about the sacrifice parents would have to make m exchanging their children’s old books for the new. But now that the matter has been fully adjusted the old books ar s to be received at a liberal price as herein shown. (J M. Barnes, of Chicago, has arranged to accept the old books at the following prices: Readers—First. 5 cents; seond, 7 cents; third,9 cents; fourth, 12 cents, and fifth 15 cents. Arithmetics— Elementary,7 cents; complete, 11 cents. Geographies (except Indiana edition)—Elemen tary. 11 cents; cents Or to put it in a difierentway: Five cents and the old first reader in use bups a new first reader.
Eight cents and the old second reader in use buys a new second reader. Sixteen cents and the old third reader in use buys a new third reader. Nineteen cents and the old fourth reader in use buys the new fourth reader. Twenty-five cents and the old fifth reader in use buys the new fifth reader. Twenty-eight cents and the old elementary arithmetic in use buys the new elen; entary arithmetic. Thirty-four cents and the old complete arithmetic in use buys the new complete arithmetic. Nineteen cents and the old elementary geography in use buys tne new elementary geography. Fifty cents and the old complete geography in use buys the new complete geography. At these prices the books must be without torn leaves and in good condition. Injured books that have to be rebound will be taken at one half the above prices. It is true that even these exchange prices will entail some immediate loss, but this and more too will soon be saved in the raduced price of books. The days of monopoly and high pices in school books are gone. The new books have been selected by the members of the State boardof education who have pronounced them equal to the old books in every particular. Those who are howling against the new oooks are doing it for political purposes and some of them are doing it for money furnished by the book trusts But the trust is “busted” and the new books fare being placed in every county in the State.
