“I’m a little out of funds,” said a seedy-looking individual, “and I’d like to be assisted along to the next town. Could you help me a short distance ?” “Well, really, now,” replied the citizen addressed, “you take me at a slight disadvantage. I haven’t got my heavy boots on this morning, but I can land you two or three feet farther on your way if you insist upon it.” No more fatal error can be cherished than that any character can be complete without the religious element.
