That’ll Teach Him.

A west country farmer attempted to frighten his wife by sending her the following note: “When you get this you will be a widow. You will find my 1 body in the stable.” Mrs. Chuffin re- ' ceived this startling news with considerable nonchalance, and, it is alleged, got out her husband’s best clothes and i began to brush them for the funeral. She sent her daughter to the stable, I who returned, saying he was not dead, ; but looked “awful bad.” Hastening to | the stable, Mrs. Chuffin foundher husband suspended from a rafter. In her i efforts to release him she discovered j that he had passed the cord under his ; arm, and that there was not the slightI est fear of death ensuing from strangulation. Securing a good stout stick, she whacked him till her arm was tired. She says that’ll teach him to make a better job of it next time he commits suicide. There is something wrong in the ' division of time when a woman will spend two hours jn putting up her hair and only one minute in snatching her ' husband bald-headed.
