TARIFF REFORM LEAGUE
On Friday evening, June 21st* 1880, a meeting will h«belci nf- the Court House, in Rensselaer, for the purpose of organizing a TarReform League in this place. ith ?he highest protective tariff the country has ever known and starvation wages the hire of the workingmen of tlie land; with monopolies arrogant and soulless and the Harrisonian adni’ktiatration laying into their hands, the tune certainly auspicious for the organization of Tariff Reform Leagues in every city, village and hamlet in the country. The socalled protection is a delusion and ft fraud. Read the remarks ei ex-Presi-dent Cleveland at the banquet of welcome. Political tricksters receive no comfort from him. 1 - "•+ 'iff i j
One of who takes a newspaper for a year pr two ami then sends it back “refused” or “not wanted,” was sued by a Michigan publisher a short time ago, and the judge gave a verdict for the plaintiff for full amount with costs. The court decided that notice to discontinue was nos sufficient if the r übscrib ?r was in arrears. He must pay first. —Goshen Democrat.
In order to withdraw public attention from the many infamous appointments made by the present Harrisonian administration the Republican this week gives its readers a dose prepared by the N. Y. Tribunp, whose editor holds an appointment by the grace of Elder Harrision. The points attempted K be made by the Tribune lack foundation, and were refuted when made. The Republican sho’d inform its readera that a number of the appointments to the Indianapolis post office have j roven so notoriously that at a meeting of the Civil Service Commission the other day, in that city, they were ordered to be dropped.
'‘Advantages of a Home Market, appears in tlie liepublican this week, and it ib so nice—from Brother Marshall’s standpoint.— l>ut if lie wished lobe honest, fair and truthful with his Readers, he would have occupied the space with the proclamation of Indiana’s great expounder of the conmitution. MIGHT DO FOR SOUP.
A staunch republican has a democrat wife who had an idea that during the last administration a reduction of the tariff would greatly benefit the working classes, while her husband argued that the election of Harrison and the triumph of the protection idea would have the same result. As every oze knows the tendency has been toward hard times since the election, and this repub’ican has been out of work and without money sir ce that time. One day recently tno wife said to the husband: “There isn’t a thing in the house to eat.” “I know it,” replied the husband, “but what can I do? t have had no work for weeks, and I have been trying every place but can fiud none, and am totally discouraged.” “Well,” said she, “go to the closet and get me that protection to ‘Ara-rican labor’ banner you carried during the last campaign. I’ll cut it up and boil it, and may lie it’ll do for soup. ” Rushville Jacksonian.
SCANDALOUS FACTS.
It is a fact that the last ejection was carried by money corruptly contributed and corruptly used. The electoral votes which decided the contest contrary to the popular will, as shown in the popular vote were bought. Ths men who furnished the money have been rewarded by the administration; the men who did the dirty and criminal work have been protected from prosecution in v rious ways, some of them by the self-stultifying act of a judge in reversing his decision and substituting an idiotis ruling in its stead/and that judge, it is now rumoredjds- likely to oe raised to still highea judicial position as a reward for his subserviency.—N.
