Is Your Dander Up?
The word “dander” is a corruption of d-anger, and has generally been considered an Americanism, but in Halliwell’s Archaic Dictionary he gives the words dander (anger) and dandy (distracted), the former common to several English counties and the latter peculiar to Somersetshire. A dandy is generally used to mean a coxcomb, a fop, and is the French word dandin (a conceited fellow).
