It is one of the unwritten laws that every incoming President of the United States should be sworn on a new Bible. Clerk McKenny, of the United States Supreme Court,' supplies the Bible. After the inaugural ceremony the volume is presented to some one of the President’s family. The custom was set aside in the case of Mr. Cleveland, who took the oath on a Bible once owned by his mother, although Mr. McKenny had purchased a book for the occasion.
