Keep to the Right.

A quaint lesson in economy was given by an Englishwoman of wealth and position to an American friend. It related to the method of preserving a stair-carpet, and to keep it in its entirety as long as possible. She and her husband had agreed, the one to keep always to the right in going up and down, and the other to walk only upon the left-hand side of the carpet. It was expected that the company would keep exclusively in the center of the stairway, and that, as a result of the arrangement, the stair-carpet would grow old with equal rapidity.
