Mothers Who Are Too Generous.
It is true that the young wife end mother is more often too self-sacrificing ifhan otherwise. She sinks her own in•dividuality altogether too much in the leervice of her family. It is the easiest thing to do, to reserve nothing in the way of devotion, but it is not the wisest way. It develops selfishness instead of thoughtfulness in the beloved ones whom she serves, and it too often i happens that the wife and mother who denies herself constantly waiting upon others, and demands no consideration for herself, wakes later in life to find that she has made a mistake. Out of the fullness of her heart she has given more than she ought for the sake of her family as well as herself. The daughter whose comfort has always been consulted before that of her mother, the son whose hours of study or play must never be interrupted for his mother’s sake, the husband who knows that his wife is a saint of usefulness, impose unconsciously upon her goodness. And they develop a dullness of sympathy, and unreadiness to think of her needs, which is as hurtful to their own moral growth as it is heart-breaking and incomprehensible to the woman who has uselessly laid down her very life for them.—Christian Advocate.
Cure of Pneumonia.
Hess Road, Niagaba Co.. N. Y„ 1 March 24, 18W. < About a year ago I was taken with a severe pain in both lungs. I was first attacked with a violent chill, then a dreadful pain, and then a cough, accompanied by considei-able fever. It looked very much like a bad attack of pneumonia. A friend of mine procured five Allcock's Blasters. One he put under each arm, one under each shoulder blade, and one on my chest close around my throat. In a few hours the cough ceased, the pain gradually abated, and I broke' out in a profuse perspiration. I fell into a profound sleep, and the next day was almost well. I wore the Plasters eight days afterward, and have never had any trouble

In an Emergency.
It is well to remember this. A correspondent some time sine? wrote an English journal as follows : A patient of mine recently swallowed a plate (gold, with two teeth), and I immediately adepted a practice recommended to me some years ago by Sir James Paget in a similar case. I made him eat three goad-sized slices of bread and swallow soar tablepoonfuls of flour and water made into a fairly t’liek masL I then administered an emetic, and the teeth returned entangled in the tenacians vomit. I may add that the first case was equally successful, and that something of this sort is habitually done at police stations, when pisoners arrested for passing false coins swallow them.— Exchange.
Digest and Be Jolly.
Did ever any one see a jolly dyspeptic? Wo trow not. What natural cheerfulness is proof against tho almost ceaseless bodily annoyance of chronic indigestion? People whose stomachs are constamly disturbed exhibit the utmost peevishness and nervous irritability. Happily lor them —s ; nc j the irritable and nervous prematurely fret themselves in o the travo— tranquill.ty of the stomach and renewed good temper await them in a sure < u vrti r, if they will but seek it. The genial ft machic, Hostetter s Stomach Bitters, breeds cheerfulness by insuring its essential pre-condition—easy digest'on. Biliousness, too, and con t pation, malevolent companions of the ba ishee, dyspepsia, van’sli aft r a brief but steady course of the national alterative. Many a temper naturally sweet, but continually to ji el by tho combined attack of this trio of imps, passes the i oundary of monomania. Pre vent this possibility with the Bitters. Malarial fevers, rheumatism, kidney complain s ar.d debil.ty are truly relieved by this standard medicine.

Dr- F. Ta Pond is. having wonderful success in the treatment and cure of cancer at the cancer hospital at Aurora. 111. There are numbers of cures recently made by him which are truly wonderful. Those afflicted should not hesitate, but should go there for treatment at once. For information, address Dr. F. L. Pond, Aurora, 111. Parchment Bearings.
Experiments are being made on Pungum railways with axle boxes fitted with bearings of vegetable parchment in place of brass. The parchment is strongly compressed before being used; and it is thoroughly dried, t > prevent subsequent shrinkage. Wooden rings are placed on the outside of the Warings, fitting the collars of the journal. An emulsion of water and oil, and all the mineral oils, are used as lubricants. The parchment soon becomes impregnated with oil, and is able to go a long time without a renewal of lubrication. It is between the body of th? journal and the thin edge of the parchment segments that friction takes place. The claim is made that these compressed paper bearings make a tough material that is superior to metal, Such bearings are also in use in a German saw mill with satisfactory operation.
Henry Hudson’s Mermaid.
Henry Hudson also discovered the east coast of Greenland and a mermaid. This, at least, is what he recorded of the latter incident: “One of our company looking overboard, saw a mermaid, and, calling up some of the company to see her, one more came up, and she was then close to the ship’s side, looking earnestly on the men. Soon afterward a sea came and overturned her. Her back and breasts were like a woman’s, her body as big as one of us; her skin very white, and long, black hair hanging down behind. In her going down they saw her tail, like the tail of a porpose, and speckled like mackerel. Their names that saw her were Thomas Hills and Robert Rayner.” —All the Year Hound.
