Inasmuch as the Republican business men of Ronsselaer have subscribed largely to the fund for the approaching Yoorhees rally, it will not be amiss to correct a wrong impression which exseasively prevails regarding the sources from which the mon=v so the Republican rally of Sept. 28th was derived: The committee on finance solicited subscriptions from a number of Democratic business men but the favorable responses weie so few in number and small in amount that th » committee deeded not to accept any Democratic subscriptions at all, and all sums paid by Democrats were returned to the donors. The Republicans paid the cost of their own rally, every cent, and the Democrats ought to have been politely requested to follow suit.— Rensselaer Republican. The above was no doubt intended to beget ill-feeling and unfriendly relations between the bu siness men of Rensselaer; but we have too much confidence in the good sense of oui people, to give any prominence to sueh vaporings. A few words of history may not be out of place here, as showing the animus of the author of the arti cle. After the republican lally was oyer, and all the profit accruing therefrom was alreadv in the pockets of our business men, those democrats who had not previously contr.buted to the fund were informed by the committee on finance that the expenses of the rally were greater than anticipated, and being short of funds, solicited to make such contributions as their profits from increased business might justify. The committee thus rnaue goou their alleged shortage. Then, on the morning succeeding the said republican rally, some prominent republican business men of the town voluntarily approached tneir democratic friends, and proposed, as a matter of business, to contribute material aid in promoting a good demonstration on their part. The proposition was carefully considered by the Democratic Club, and a committee appointed to ascertain how large a fund could be obtained for this purpose, from the business men of the town without regard to party lines.
The matter was presented to them m a purely business light, and their subscriptions taken in that view, and we are glad to announce, that of all the business men in tow n who were approached on the subject, but one refused- to contribute liberal l,y and he is a candidate for office on the republican ticket. we a r e aware tha; a self constituted committee oi bigots, when informed of the praiseworthy liberality of their townsmen, went around endeavoring to dissuade republican friends from giving anything, even resorting to threats and bulldozing, after the manner of their kind. To give point to their proceeding, they returned to those democrats who had contributed to make good their alleged deficit, the sums so paid by them, with the Aims / pretext that a mistake had been made in figuring up the amount of expenses incurred, and that tfie money thus obtained was not needed.
