Chamberlain k Zull will bnild a large barn on the Catholic farm. Art W. Cole, of the railway mail service, has been removed. Frost was visible yesterday morning, Mr. H. R. W. Smith, of the Chicago Tribune, and wife are visiting friends in Rensselaer and vicinity. The Jasper county fair opened Tuesday ana has met with but moderate success. The Remington fair commences next Tuesday. The Jasper County Teachers’ Institute which closes to-day hns proven a great auccess In attendance, interst, and in the exercises, lectures, etc. A more extended notice of the proceedings will b given next week.

George H. Brown, jr., wife and son, of Barkley township, are visiting the parents of Mrs. 8., in Missouri. Mrs. W. D. Lee and daughter, formerly residents in Rensselaer, now of Las Vegas, New Mexico, are visiting relatives and friends in this locality. A twin sou of A. J. Free land, of Newton township, aged about two months, was interred in Weston cemetery, Monday. A number of our people were “bit” by the traveling patent medicine man and troupe who operated in Rensselaer Saturday and Monday evenings. The victims know by this time how it was done. Miss Nellie Waterhouse, of Chicago, is the guest of Miss Nellie Paxton, in Newton township. Geo. W. Casey, at I air Oaks, is agent for the celebrated Peerless Mower, Reaper and Binder.
