BETTING ON THE ELECTION.
Harrison Men Refuse to Put Up Money at Dess Than Odds of Two to One. [New York special,] The Harrison men on the down-town exchanges continued yesterday to refuse the odds of SIOO to S6O pn Cleveland and Thurman. This was particularly so on the produce exchange, where a plump offer on that basis by a Cleveland man was plumply refused. The declination was on the ground that two to one on Cleveland and Thurman were current elsewhere. That was true to' a limited extent on the stock exchange. The Harrison men say they will take big money at those odds, but sneer at anything less than SIOO bets. The Democrats down town think two to one altogether too extravagant, especially when they consider the effect that a tussle over the New York local ticket by the county Democracy and Tammany may have. The next Mayor, they say, wiil be a prince of patronage and powerful enough to form an organization for himself. The down-town Democrats want this question settled before they offer any more money at odds of two to one on Cleveland and Thurman.
