The Democrat! man claims to have a curiosity in hie possession, Queen Sake by name. One of his ..dmirers has a notiou that it must be a contraband female of African descend,which he has brought from the Rejuhlicm camp into the Democratic fold. His admirer furthermore thinks she is sister to ‘bon voyage’ and others of tonguetwisting appellations, and that the d. m. fully expects to make ‘Democrats, wake up!’ with their help.. Rumor has it that a ‘dicker’ is on for the purchase of the Rensselaer mill propert ■ by C. C. bigler. Cliarlev. seven-year-old son of Dr. Kelley, was thrown from a horse, Wednesday evening, causing a break of both bones of his left leg above the ankle. Dr. Lougliridge was summoned and the little fellow is doing well.
In filling his pipe, Wednesday morning, Willis McColly accidentally put a 22 -calibre cartridge in with the tobacco. The explosion that followed fortunately caused no further damage than the destruction of the pipe. On Friday last a valuable Cossack yearling filly, belonging to Tom J. McCoy, reared up and falling backward broke it* neck.

The rye crop, which is now being harvested, is fairly good, Our local politicians have open’d the campaign by exposing their usual amount of ignorance, cheek and damphoolishness. Mr. H. Hudson and family, of Kansas, who have been visiting relatives in this locally, started on their return journey on Tuesday evening of last -week. The Democratic county convention which was recently held in Mt. Ayr was well attended and harmonious diroughout. The Morocco and Iventland bands furnished excellent music, and all present felt that it was good to be there. We learn that Jasper Page, of this place, has taken unto himself a wife —Addie somebody—but just wlio we are unable at this writing td say. Captain Jack. July 9, 1888. Jennie Austin started for Mornence, Thursday, where she will spend a few weeks visiting friends. The 4th was celebrated by a crowd of people. A good time was had, and good order prevailed.
