On TuMd&y evening of fat week Mr. R. P. Benjamin, of Rensselaer, was taken very sick, at the residence off Mr. Colthoust, northeast of Remington. The Odd fellows have given him the best of care durfiag his sickness. His father. Mr/ Rial Benjamin, came over Saturday. He is some better now, and will be taken home so soon as his physician thinks it proper to move him. —Remington News. 1776. July 1888. THE CELEBRATION AT COMER’S GROVE. JI LY 4th ISSS. A Jolly Place! 4 Jolly Crowd! A Jolly Day. Gigantic preparations are being made for a magnificient Fourth of July celebration at Comer’s Grove. The Grove is situated one mile north of Alter’s mill on a slightly elevated rise of ground, surrounded by open fields, and is one of the most pleasant places in the country. R. W. Marshall, witty, eloquent and humorous, will be with us, seconded by D. L. Bishopp, candidate for Representative of Jasper and Newton, and, assisted by home talent, will stir the people’s hearts with patriotism. In addition to our published program will be all of the popular amusements, such as sack racing, climbing greased pole, a wheelbarrow race, Solos and quartettes, by a genuine troupe or darkeys. A dutch speech by J no. E. Alters, (why he loves the stars and stripes.) Daisy Yeoman, assisted by competent musicians, will lead the instrumental music. The classes of singers are thoroughly drilled and music will be floating through the air. Those who love the wavy motion of the mazy dance shall not be disappointed. In the evening Old Billy Cox, that funny man is coming down from Fair Oaks. Yeoman’s Martial band will be present during the day. Every body invited to attend. By order of the committee. Jno. E.
