Complete returns from the township elections throughout the State on Monday show the Democrats have gained 103 trustees and carried the State on a popular vote by over 10,000 majority. The trial of Gen. Carnahan, exchairman of the republican central committee of Marion county, has besn fixed for May 16th next. We wifi see whether Judge Woods will exert himself to conviet Carnahan to the extent he did in the cases < f Coy and Bernhamer.
Had the Democrats of certain townships in this county made the straight, square and persistent fight made by our friends in Union and Newton townships, three or four more trustees would have been added to ths Demccrat'c list. We trust the lesson derived from the result wil! be properly appreciated, and the mi takes avoid-d in the fall election.
The •lection in this Township, on Monday last passed off quietly> resulting in the success of the republican ticket. AVe art, firmly eonvinced that more interest and exertion on the part of Democrats would result in a great reduction of the Republican majority in this county, and may wipe it out altogether. Take the county over and that party has been shorn of considerable of its strength. In the matter of Trustees the parties stand as they did two years ago.— The Democrats have lost Jordan, and gained Union. Let our friends buckle on their armor and prepare for the great conflict ahead of us. Let each and ev ry Democrat do his whole duty.
Bro. Marshall was too cowardly to either endorse or condemn the malicious attack of the lowbred Ingalls on McClellan and Hancock, but he accepts the thin gruel tendered by that malignant brute in explanation. Ingalls meant what he said just as our neighbor and his partisan associrates do when they charge Democrats with sympathy fortreason.— The fact 1S that c'ass lack ability to make the distinction between those who were and are for the whole Union, as against sectionalists nortd and south. Joe, son of Wm. this place,, for the past year and a half in the employ of the Adams Express Company, with headquarters at Pittsburgh, Pa., is visiting home an friends in Rensselaer. The W. cTr/ufof Jasper county, will hold a three davs convention in Hanging Grove township, beginning on Friday evening, April 13th, continuing until Sunday forenoon, April 15th. An extended programme of exercises has been prepared, and the convention p *omises to be interesting and largely attended. Just now the Republicans think the appointment of Chief Justice should be made without reference to political bias. How disinterest- 1 vd!
