The Funereal Month of March.
An observant metropolitan barber uri that be can tell one's physical condition bv the state of the hair! The Bible tells ns that with his hair gone Samson lost his strength. Hie Romans considered baldness a serious affliction, and Julios Cesar was never quite satisfied with himself because his poll wss bare. Tbs faoe, however, is the open book, snd one can readily trace in ita various expressions, lines, changes, and complexion the state of the system. The eye thst is unususlly bright, snd yet has s pal id brightness, the face upon whose cheeks nature paints s rose of singular beauty and flush, more marked in contrast with the alabaster appearance of the forehead and nose and lower part of the face, is one of tho-e whom the skilled physician will tell you will some day dread the funereal month of March, because it is then thst consumption reaps its richest harvest Consumption, they tell us, is caused by this, that, and the other thing, by microbes in the air, by micro-or-fanisms m the blood, by deficient nutrition, y a thousand and one things, but whatever tne cause, decay begins with s oough, and the remedy that will effectually stop the cause of that cough cures the disease of the lungs. Tnat is all there is of it The cough is an evidence of a wasting. To stop it effectually, a remedy must be used that will search out the cause, remove that, and then heal the lung and do away with the oough. This is the power, special to Itself, possessed alone by Warner’s Log Cabin Cougn and Consumption remedy. This is no new-fangled notion of narcotics and poisons, but an old-fashioned preparation of balsams, roots, and herbs, sucn as was used by our ancestors many years ago, the formula of which has been secured exclusively by the present manufacturers at great trouble and expense. It is not a mere cold dryer. It is a system-seacher and upbuilder and a consumption expellanfc. Where others fail, it wins, because it gets at the constitutional cause and removes it from the system. J. W. Hensaw, of Greensboro, Pa., on Jan. 15, 1888, reported that “he had derived more real benefit for the length of time, from Warner’s Log Cabin Cough and Consumption remedy than he had for years from the best State physician?.” If yon have a cough, night sweats, “positive assurance in your own mind that vou, oh—you, have no consumption,” and yet lose flesh, appetite, courage, as your lungs waste away, you may know that soon tho funereal month of March will claim you, unless promptly and faithfully you use the article named. If other remedies have failed try this one thoroughly. If others are offered, insist the more on trying this unequaled preparation. Some persons are prone to consumption, and they should never allow the disease to become seated.
A Religious Darwinian.
Professor Asa Gray was one of Darwin’s most esteemed friends and powerful advocates in this country. At the same time he never could find in natural selection a satisfactory cause for the law and order he beheld so clearly in the world. It was to him an insufficient explanation, and back of it he recognized the existence of a first cause. His religious and scientific beliefs are best summarized in his own words: “I am scientifically, and in my own fashion, a Darwinian, philosophically a convinced theist, and an accepter of the ‘creed commonly known as the Nicene’ as the exponent of the Christian faith.” His reasons for this position were fully given in a short coarse of lectures before the Theological School of Yale in 1880.
An Electric Pilot.
An Austrian engineer has designed a truck to run before every railway train, being maintained at a fixed, adjustable distance by the force of an electric current, transmitted along the rails from a dynamo on the engine. The current is conducted through mercury contained in glass tube.s on the pilot truck. If the truck comes into collision the tubes are broken and the contact destroyed. The interruption of the current instantly and automatically apfilies the brakes on the following train, t is claimed by the inventor that two expresses fitted with this system might with impunity be set to run full tilt at each other. The collision of their pilot trucks would arrest the progress of both trains before they could meet.
Death a Welcome Reiease.
Must it not be to those who endure life-long bodily suffering? From-childhood to old age many persons are tormented with rheumatism and neuralgia. Ordinary medication and topical remedies are of slight, and always of temporary efficacy. To escape the extreme tortures of these, agonizing complaints, they should be annihilated at the outset with Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters, which expels from the system the acrid impurities that beget them. The evidence as to its efficacy as a blood depurent in this particular is very ample, and strongly concurrent and convincing. In violent forms of these diseases the nerves are terribly racked A wineglassful or two of the Bitters before the hour of retiring usually brings a rospite from pain, and enables the sufferer to secure much needed repose. For kiduev troubles, malarial complaints, indigestion, liver complaint and constipation, the Bitters is likewise beneficial.
Color Blindness.
_ Prof. Ramsay believes that the particular defect giving rise to color-blind-ness lies not in the eye itself, but in the brain. Certain persons, he points out, are incapable of judging which of two musical tones is the higher, even when they are more than an octave apart. Yet, as such persons hear either tone perfectly, the defect is not one of deafness. He accordingly argues that in such persons the brain is at fault, and thence proceeds to the assumption that it,may be equally true that the inability to perceive certain colors is not due to a defect in the instrument of sight by the eye, but to the power of interpreting the impressions conveyed to the brain by the optic nerve. The Emperor Napoleon was in exile at St. Helena from Oct. 10, 1816, the date of his arrival, until his death, May 5, 1821. His remains were removed to Prance in 1-140. No Use for Second-Hand Teeth. Little Johnny Fizzletop is an Austin boy who has been obliged for many years to wear the cast-olf clothing of his elder brother, Bob. Johnny never gets anything until Bob gets through with it. A few days ago Bob had a dreadful toothache, and it was decided that the aching tooth should be pulled. “You may pull all his teeth out if you like," said Johnny, “but I ain’t going to chew with them afterward. I can tell you that right now." —Texas Siftings.

The people of Thessaly were the first, probably, among the Greeks who broke horses for service in war, and the proficiency of these people as equestrians gave rise to the ancient myth that their country was originally inhabited by centaurs. Everybody in the church, except the new pastor himself, seemed to enjoy it when he lost the place in his manuscript, and while hunting for it spoke of “Esau, who sold his message for a birth of potright.”— Burdette. Martin de Sodza discovered Rio and established the first European colony in Brazil, at Vincente, in 1531. The country became an independent kingdom. A Michigan Central Railroad Employe Wins His Case After a Seven Years' Contest.
/ Albion, Mich., Deo. 20, 1887. While employed as agent of the Michigan Central Railroad Company at Augusta, Mich., about seven years ago, my kidneys became diseased, and I have been a great sufferer ever since. Have consulted the leading physicians of this city and Ann Arbor, and all pronounced my case Bright’s disease. After taking every highly recommended remedy that Iha 1 knowledge of, to no purpose, and while suffering under a very severe attack in October last, began taking Hibbard’s Rheumatic Syrup, and am to-day a well man. It affords me pleasure to render suffering humanity any good that I can, and in speaking of the remedy, allow me to say that I think it the greatest, medicine in the world. E. Larzileri, Agent M. C.
