Bartholdi’s Great Work.
The statue of Liberty enlightening the world, which stands on Bedloe’s Island, in the harbor of New York, is one of the moat sublime artistic conceptions of modern times. The torch of the goadeas lights the nations of the earth to peace, prosperity, and progress, through Liberty. But “liberty* ia an empty word to the thousands of poor women enslaved by physical ailment* a hundredfold more tyrannical than any Nero.
