Richardson, One oi the famous “ Big Four" of the Detroit Club. Hardy Richardson, as he is known to the frequenters of the game, is one of the men that have helped to make the Detroit Club what it is, and enables it to 'stand where it does in the race for the pennant of 1887. Richardson was one of the “Big Four” who were purchased from the Buffalos, and since that time the “Big Four” has become
the “Big Five,” Thompson—Detroit’s right fielder—having been admitted to the eoterie. Richardson is one of the veterans of the League, having played with them for eight seasons, and he stands eighth with an average of 301 for the eight seasons. His batting average for 1880 was 351, he standing fourth in the League. In his play at second base he was second, with an average of 940, and in the field his average was 899.
