Death of Frederic TV.(’ole. Frederick W. Cole, a former resident of Rensselaer, died in Chicago Thursday, July 28th, I of sewer gas poisoning, at the age of G 4 years and 8 mouths. He was t e father of Fred W. Cole, Jr., of ! Lafayette, and A. W. Cole, of New J Albany, both well known former . residents of this place. The remains were brought here for burial, aud were laid in Weston come tery last Sunday, under the direction of Rensselaer post G. A. R. ! and Milroy camp S. of Y. Mr. Cole was born in Exeter, England. In 1861 he entered the | 61st Illinois regiment as Ist Lieuj tenant and at the close of the war was mustered cut as adjutant of | the 13th 111. cavalry. He was at one time deputy county c.erk of Tippecanoe county, Ind.; was for three years asst, adjutant general of Illinois, and was for nearly 25 years dept, clerk of the U. S. court at Springfield aud Chicago, 111. At the t.me of his deatn he held the position of dept. U. S. marshal, at Chicago. ±ia leaves a widow, four sons and one daughter. Of these, only two sons, Fred and Arthur, were present at the funeral, as the others all live in the western states.
