Rumored Land Hale a Myth. Land Commissioner Sparks says the story of recent sales of 60,000,000 acres of the public lands is a myth. In a recent letter he replies to an inquiry as follows: I am in receipt of your letter of the 3d instant, inquiring how a New York syndicate can get possession of 60,(XX),000 acres of public land. I infer that your inquiry relates to a newspaper paragraph recenPy published stating that a syndicate had purchased an alleged private land claim, embracing an enormous quantity of land including portions of Texas, Kansas, the Indian .territory, New Mex co and Colorado. I have t advise you that no possession has been acquired by any person or persons of 60,000,000 or any other numbers of acres of land under this alleged claim, and that the records of this office disclose no foundation for a legitimate claim of this charact r. No person has any right to attempt to control or dispose of public lands of the United States upon the pretext of such claim.
