The G. A. R. Post exercises, last Friday evening, were interrupted by a number of ladies who routed the members thereof, took possession of the hall, and proceeded to spread a feast of good things for the veterans. The whole affair was a surprise. Senator Sellers, of Montieello, visited Rensselaer Monday. The school board has contracted for one of Yaggy’s Anatomical Studies for the use of the . chool. Prof. Reubelt and family are visiting friends in Marshall county, this State. The Nowels House has been refurnished throughout, and arranged for the accommodation and comfort of guests. The manager, Mr. Tribby, is a gentleman of experience and we wish him success.

The anniversary exercises of the I. O. O. F., at the Opera House, last Wednesday, were highly entertaining and gratifying. The addresses of Secretary of State Myers and M. L. Spitler, Esq., are referred to in eulogistic terms. Ladies, we have secured a firstclass milliner for the coming season of 1886, Mrs. Carrie Plielps of Chicago, who is a first-class artist. Sam Nich jls has been appointed station agent at Rose Lawn, and Emerson Reeve takes the position of night operator at this place. In the circuit court, Tuesday, Lewis Mosier, of Keener township, plead guilty to the charge of «arrying a deadly weapon. Fined $1 and costs. On the same day Talby, the Lafayette boy, plead guilty to charge of pettit larceny. Fined $1 and costs and given two hours in county jail. Selling all our Dry Goods at cost to close them out. John G. Keynolds’ application for licen e to sell liquors in Rensselaer was granted to-day. Notice to the Public. The firm of Hemuhill & Honan has dissolved by mutual consent, Mrs. S. A.
