Speaking of school stories, I went toschool myself once, and one day when visitors were present the teacher thought he would show off the. spelling and defining class. Things went on well until the word “singular” was given out. There seemed to be a diversity of opinion as to the meaning of the word, one saying it meant one thing and another another, until the teacher, by the way of throwing light upon the matter, asked; “Now, if I should say a man was a singular man, what should I mean?” whereupon a bright boy shouted, “A man that didn’t have any wife!” A teacher asked one of her pupils the other day to give her the sum of five and six. “ ’Leven,” was the reply. “You shouldn’t say ’leven,” she said. “Say ‘eleven’ always. Next boy, how many are five and seven?” “E-twelve!” was the prompt reply. This mast prove that Gen. Walker is right when he says that our publicschool children learn logic rather than numbers in their study of arithmetic.— Louisville Courier-Journal. The true secret of success is merit. This is so with Red Star Cough Cure, a purely vegetable compound, entirely free from opiates, poisons and narcotics, and which has received the public endorsement of physicians and chemist's evervwhere.
