Democrats! attend your township conventions, to be held at the several places for holding elections, to-morrow, Saturday, May 29, 1886. -At the Prohibition State Conv ntion, in Indianapolis, on Wednesday last, Hon. R. Dwiggins, of this place, was nominated for Judge of the Supreme Court. Ingalls, of Kansas, calls Commissioner of Pensions Black an imposter. Black was a target for rebel bullets while Ingalls was striving by questionable methods to secure political preferment. The Message concedes to its party, in the Senatorial unpleasantness, thus much: “By preventing internal discord an unpopular candidate may be elected; with discord the success of the most worthy man will be endangered.” Democratic Candidates. For Clerk, John C. CHlcote; for Auditor, Lute Strong; for Treasurer, Wm. M. Hoover; for Sheriff, Wash Scott and Adam Hess; for Recorder, John B. Lefler, D. W. Shields, and M. A. Makeever are being urged. Democrats, prepare for action! Conventions will be held in the several townships in Jasper county, [on to-morrow, Saturday, May 29th, for the purpose of selecting delegates to the County Convention, which will be held in Rensse aer on the Saturday following, June sth, 1886.
There is an old saying that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” In all such cases, therefore, the Train question to be determined by parties interested will be the cost of the “ounce of prevention.” ■ - A glance at the Republican apportionment foisted upon this State by a Republican legislature and administration, is sufficient to draw from our neighbor Marshall the admission that lion Fred Hoover did a righteous act when he voted for its present proportions. J. W. Duvall was scouring a considerable portion of Jasper, Pulaski, Porter and LaPorte counties last week, on hunt of a horse thief with a pair of horses and a buggy belonging to a Kentland livery establishment. “Wes’’ generally brings his man, but this time he failed to “sot eye on ’im.” The new display of Goods, selected and bought by such a combination of experience and taste as Mr. and Mrs. Ludd Hopkins may justly .claim to have, will certainly sell at the prices offered.

Parties employed in building a drain near the residence of F. B. Meyer, in the prosecution of the work on Wednesday undertook to blast some rock, pieces of which struck Allen Catt on the head and hand, wounding him severely. Judge Holman.
Washington Post: Judge Holman’s name will get into Webster’s Dictionary if he doesn’t look out. Many of the reckless Republican papers are inclined to use the new verb “to holmanize,” and they assert that the watchful member from Indiana is “Holman’zing legislation.” The fact is that the charge is true. He keeps economizing wherever he can in the most reckless fashion. In reporting the Appropriation bill from his committee, he lopped off 225 Government employes. If he keeps it up the dictionary will be amended in its next edition as thus: Holmany, n. Frugality; retrenchment; inclination to cut down expense, and dispense with sinecures. Holmanize, v. To economize; to retrench any way, whether ypu can or not; to protect the Treasury against all comers. Holmauistic, adj. Tendency to holmanize; severe economical bias. Holmanomically, adv. In a holamnistic manner; alter the fashion of holmanizeis. Probably he can stand it, and perhaps the Treasury can stand it, if the Republican party can stand it. If you want good clothing at lo w figures, call and examine the large stock just opened out at Fendig’s. American Enterprise.
No invention of the nineteenth century has worked a greater revolution in household economy or conferred more of a benefit on humanity than the sewing machine. The first productions were crude and uncouth in the extreme, and it was reserved for American skill ’•nd ingenuity to bring forth a machine of any practical value. In order to appreciate the great advancement which has taken place it is only necessary to compare one of the machines built during the infancy of the invention with one of the latest improved ‘ Light-Running New Home ” All the really good points contained in other machines have been utilized in its construction.— Many new 7 improvements and devices have also been added, the .esult of which is a machine as nearly perfect as it is possible to make one. For simplicity, durability, ease of management and capacity for work, the “Light-Running New Home” has no rival, and the happy possessor of one may rest assured that he or she has the very best the world affords. See adtertisement on another page of THIS PAPER. Since Leopold reduced prices on all his Dry Goods, Clothing. Boots and Shoes below all competition, his goods go off like hot cakes. No shoe store shall sell “good Shoes” —n o shoddy—cheaper than Ludd Hopkins. An extensive stock, in great variety, of Straw Goods, ranging in price from sc. to $3, at N. Fendig’s.
