BLACKFORD ITEMS.

Jenkins, who has been on the sick list for some time, is slowly recovering. Corn planting is the order of the day. Wm. Daniels boasts of the best field of wheat in the township. Robert Porter is making his home with H. Henkl , and teaching the Cosy Palace school. Miss Lottie Peacock is teaching the Burns school. C. Florence, of Greensburg, Kansas, after spending a few days with friends, started for his home last Monday A. Arnold was called to Eel River a few days ago by the illness of liis brother. The Literary, at Burns, last Friday night, was - ? T. H. Hurley lias received his voucher for a pension of 812 per month. Emma Hurley thought that as the time for hard work was close at hand she would trot in double harness. She took for her mate L. Miller. We join in washing them a happy life. J. Casey has struck a coal oil well, and the product is red. People may talk of the world coming to an end, and many other queer things, but this coal oil product finishes it off.
The Repur licans of this county are now in fighting trim, and each faction is ready to make war upon the other on the slightest excuse. For the present Washburn has triumphed, but Powell, Thompson & Co., are only waiting an opportunity to knock the Doctor out on the next round. A. Arnold has sold 4 he thorough- 1 ■’’ed Jersey bull, “Jersey Duke,” to W. N. Pence and G. McElfresh. The Sand Ridge school is progressing finely at the present time with M. A. Makeeveras Captain. Mr. Wm. Durant has been in quite poor health for several days past. I. D. Dunn passed through this city last week.
Obituary.— Mrs. Della Florence was born in 1853, and died May 6til, 188 G, aged 33 years. For more than a year past the health of Mrs. Florence had been rather delicate, but it was not until p erhaps three months ago that she was confined to her room and there were apprehensions of danger among her friends. Since that time her eel me has been rapid and death Las ended her suffering. Sl:e bora her Kfiictfons with Christian fortitude. Put while it is our sad duty thus to record the death of one who so recently, in apparent health, mingled with us as a wife, neighbor and friend, we will cherish the memory that in these va ious relations of life she was affectionate, kind, affable and gentle. She shared in a high degree tli esteem and confidence of all who knew her. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.
