Lemon Trees.

When raised from the seed the lemon tree matures very slowly, even in a favorable climate, being about eight or ten years usually in coming to the time of bearing. r lhe time can be shortened but little by grafting. The usual method, in countries where the tree is indigenous, is to take up young wild trees and set them in prepared ground, and then bud them with an improved variety of the fruit. The lemon tree is often grown in conservatories, and, with any sort of careful treatment, will flourish The tree should have a good open soil, and when not in a growing state during the winter needs but little water; new growth begins very early in the spring, when the plant should be watered freely, kept in a warm place, and when the young wood has hardened it should be set out of doors, and kept in a sunny place and sheltered from violent winds during the summer. The plant blossoms in the spring, and the fruit should be allowed to bang upon the tree during all of the following winter to attain its full maturity.— Inter Ocean.

In good season, and don't forget to take with you Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters, which will revivo and benefit you when fatigued; will nullify tho hurtful effects of water contaminated with zinc from the ic3-cooler, or stagnant and brackish ; relieve indigestion produced by meals of uncertahi wholosomeness, hastily bolted at odd times in railway stations, and protect you from tho influence of vitiated or malarious air and thorough draughts. To the traveling public, this admirable safeguard and specific is tendered in a convenient and agreeable shape. An ordinary ship’s medicine chest contains no snch comprehensive and reliable remedy, a fact well understood by mariners. The commercial traveler, tourist, emigrant, miner and Western pioneer all appreciate the value of the Bitters. It cures dyspepsia, costivencss, liver complaint, malarial disorders, inactivity of the kidneys, and is a fine nerve tonic.

The Game Not Worth the Cost.

While Judge Walton was at work in his chamber at Portland one day many years ago, drawing an opinion in a knotty case, a certain lawyer came in. This lawyer (he is now deceased) was a thin, tooth-pickish, dudisli sort of man, wliom the Judge did not like very well, and than whom he had rather seen Daniel Pratt himself walking into his chamber. “Well, Brother Lightweight, what can I do for you this morning?” asked Judge Walton, hoping to get rid of the fellow. “Nothing,” he replied; “I only came in to make you a call.” After a disagreeable silence the Judge looked up again, and asked: “Brother Lightweight, why don’t you get married?” “Because I can’t afford it; how much do you suppose it costs me to live now?” The Judge said he couldn’t guess. “Well, it costs me $6,000 a year for just my oivn living.” An expression of surprise came on the Judge’s face. “Lightweight,” said he, “I wouldn’t pay it; it isn’t worth it !” Lewiston (Me.) The manager of the Fort Wayne, Ind., Gazette, Mr.B.L. Holman, says he has often read of the wonderful cures effected by St. Jacobs Oil. Recently he sprained his ankle, aud invested in a cane and a bottle of St. Jacobs Oil. The latter proved the better investment, as it entirely cured his ankle.

After the Medical Commencement.

Two newly fledged physicians met and the following highly interesting conversation ensued: “Ah! good-morning, Doctor.” “Good-morning, Doctor.” “And how are you to-day, Doctor?” “First rate; and how are you, Doctor ?” “I’m all right. Got a good case of meningitis at your hospital, Doctor?” “Yes, come down and take a look at it. Anything special up your way, Doctor ?” . “Man fell from scaffolding and broke his neck two days ago, still alive, may get over it. Pleased to have yon call, Doctor.” “Thank you, I will, Doctor. Goodday, Doctor.” . “Good-day, Doctor.” — Harper's Bazar. Col. Wm. Louis Schley, Grand Secretary I. O. M. Grand Lodge, Maryland, found Red Star Cough Cure a perfect and certain remedy. Price, twenty-five cents a bdttle.

By means of the new and ingenious little instrument known as the hyalolyphotype, or hot pen, drawings can be made on glass or glassy substances with a waxy composition, which is solid and somewhat hard at ordinary temperatures. The pen is so contrived that it can be heated either by gas or by an electric current, and the waxy material flows easily from the heated pen, setting so quickly on the glass that cross-hatching can be done more rapidly than with ordinary pen and ink, without risk of blocking up the angles; corrections, too, can be made with the greatest ease by means of a penknife, which leaves the surface afterward intact. After the drawing has been made, the plate is etched by fluoric acid, and when complete it can be either electrotyped, stereotyped, used direct, or applied to any purpose for which engraved surfaces are required.
