A Healthy Neighborhood.
Mr. Tip Harrison, who never told a bad story, is responsible for the circulation of the following, illustrating the healthfulness of a certain section of North Carolina, A man was passing along the road one day and saw an old fellow ®ver in a collard patch hoeing collards and “boo-hooing’’ like a baby, as his trembling form moved about among the vegetables. “Say, there! wliat’s the matter?” asked the stranger. “What’re ye cry in’ about?” The old man wiped off his eye on his shirt sleeve and answered: “My—pa—whooped—me-e.” The stranger proceeded to the house and found a still older man, of whom he asked the cause for the “whooped” man’s tears. “You want ter know wliat’s the matter with that boy? I whooped him for sassin’ his grandpa!” The astonished stranger went into the house and there found the grandpa who had been “sassed, ” a frisky old man of 134 years . —Atlanta Constitution.
