Xbe busy marts of trade are full of men who are making the same fatal mistake. They neglect their kidneys, thinking they need no attention, whereas if they made occasional use or Warner’s safe cure they would never say that they don’t fool quite well; that a tired feeling bothers them; that they are plagued with indigestion; that their brain refuses to respond at call; that their nerves are all unstrung.—Ftre Journal.
An Experience on the Train.
“Just to think of it,” he growled, with disdain written on every line of his faoe. “I was coming out of St. Louis the other day, and, the car being crowded, I gave half my seat to a demure little widow.” “How do you know she was a widow?” “She told me so. She said she was awfully afraid of being robbed, and knowing by my face that I was an honest man she wanted me to take charge of her portemonnaie until we reached Chicago.” “And you did?” “Am I not a fool? Yes, I did, and as she passed it over, sweetly said: “ ‘There’s exactly S9O in it.’ “We rode into Chicago without leaving our seats. A*s we ran in the city I handed her the purse. She opened it and counted the money. “‘Why, there isn’t but SSO here!” she said, as she looked up at me. “But I haven’t taken any. ” “ ‘Well, lam S4O short, as you see. Perhaps you can explain to the police. ’ ” “And what did you do ?” “I gave her the S4O, of course. Please kick me a few hundred times.” —New York Star.
A Healthy Neighborhood.
Mr. Tip Harrison, who never told a bad story, is responsible for the circulation of the following, illustrating the healthfulness of a certain section of North Carolina, A man was passing along the road one day and saw an old fellow ®ver in a collard patch hoeing collards and “boo-hooing’’ like a baby, as his trembling form moved about among the vegetables. “Say, there! wliat’s the matter?” asked the stranger. “What’re ye cry in’ about?” The old man wiped off his eye on his shirt sleeve and answered: “My—pa—whooped—me-e.” The stranger proceeded to the house and found a still older man, of whom he asked the cause for the “whooped” man’s tears. “You want ter know wliat’s the matter with that boy? I whooped him for sassin’ his grandpa!” The astonished stranger went into the house and there found the grandpa who had been “sassed, ” a frisky old man of 134 years . —Atlanta Constitution.

The Confession of Napoleon’s Wife.
Marie Louise was sitting one evening with Lady Burghersh, when the conversation turned upon Napoleon, to whom the former said she had certainly believed herself much attached, and was so, having been dazzled by his military glory and the greatness of his situation on the imperial throne, etc. Lady Burghersh then asked if she had not kept up a correspondence with him during flhe time of his residence in Elba. She answered: “Yes; I cer-. tainly carried on such a correspondence to a much greater extent than was ever suspected.” “Then why,” said Lady Burghersh, “did you not join him during the hundred days ?” The answer, “I could not,” was made. On being further pressed as to the obstacles which prevented this, Marie Louise answered only “that it was impossible,” but at last euded by stating that being with child by another man was the invincible reason that prevented it. That man the Empress married immediately on the death of Napoleon, having had two children by him previously and two subsequent to the r mair age. Marie Louise was living with him when this conversation took place.

Could scarcely devise tortures more excruciating than those to which the victim of rheumatism, in the inflammatory stage, is subjected. It is also dangerous cn account i f its tendency toward th i heart and stomach. Among the benign qualities of Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters, is that of et pel ling from the circulation those acrid impurities to which the disease is attributable. Analysis r roves that, in cases of rheumatism, the kidneys fail to eliminate these impurities from the blood. The Bitters, by stimulating these organs to activity, enables them to perform this all-important function, and, therefore, averts the disease or remedies it at the outset. The functions of digestion, and secretion of bile by the liver, are also he Ithfully stimulated by the Bitters, vvh'ch conquers dyspepsia an t liver complaint, and remedies fever and ague, bilious remittent, anil other ailments of malarial birth, ft is also the leading tome of tho age.

AN OLD PREJUDICE DISAPPEARING.
Women doctors are 60 numerous now that the prejudice against them has long since died out. There are several in the United States, it is said, who enjoy an annual income of $20,000 and over, and a practice worth $5,000 a year is common. They have reached their present honorable position by hard and conscientious work, and all they receive is well earned. Medical colleges for women are now established in all the large cities, and the graduates from them number several hundred every year. Among the women doctors of Illinois is Miss Addie M. Barnes, of Danville, who recently moved to that city from Lafayette, Ind. She has recently had herself as a patient, and how 6he was successful in working a cure she tells as follows; “I had a very stubborn case of sciatica and had been confined to my bed for three weeks. I had blistered the limb and used all kinds of liniments to no purpose. Rev. Dr. Buchtel told me of the wonderful remedy, Athlophoros. Our druggist sent for it and I bought two bottles of it. Before I had taken three doses I was able to get out of bed and sit up for two hours. In three days I went down the street. I believe that had I persevered with the remedy the cure would have been permanent. However, I have never been such a sufferer since. I keep Athlophoros in my office and often tell patients of the great relief it gave me, and recommendit.” E; K. Mercer, proprietor of the Princeton (Ill.) Tribune, says of Athlophoros: “It is a good medicine and did me more good than did half a dozen doctors.” Mr. John H. Hutsel, proprietor of the West Side Pavilion, No. 678 West Indiana street, Chicago, who had been a victim of rheumatism, says: “I never had a severe case of sickness before this rheumatism came on me, and I would just remark right here that I never want another such. When it first made its appearance I consulted a physician, but his medicine made me worse. I then went to St. Joseph’s Hospital. After being there some time and getting no relief, I went back home. After being at home a few days, I heard about Athlophoros and decided to try it myself. I came from the hospital on the 3d of July. Two days after that I was unable to walk or sleep at night. I was in this condition when I commenced with the Athlophoros on the 7th inst ~ and by the 15th of the month I was well. You can 6ee by my book, I have an exact record of the dates of the time I commenced using and when I was well.” “How long were you' sick, Mr. Hutsel?” “For five weeks I was confined to my bed, during which time I lost twenty-three pounds of flesh.” “How much did you use to effect this cure?*
“Two bottles did the work, and I have not felt any pain or return of the disease since.” “Have you known of any others that have used Athlophoros?” “Yes; the lady that recommended it to me said she. knew of an old chronic case of twenty years’ standing that had been cured by the use of Athlophoros. I have had many persons that knew how I had been afflicted and suffered inquire what cured me. lam always glad to be able to say that Athlophoros is the sovereign remedy for rheumatism.” If you cannot get Athlophoros of your druggist, we will send it express paid, on receipt of regular price—one dollar per bottle. Wo prefer that you buy it of your druggist, but if he hasn’t it, do" not bo persuaded to try something olse, but order at once from us as directed. Athlophoros Co., 112 Wall street, New York.
Are You Going to New Orleans or Florida?
If so, you can go via the Monon Route, via Louisville or Cincinnati, and see the Mammoth Cave, Nashville, Blount Springs, Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, and the Gulf coast for the same money that will take you through the dreary, uninhabited Mississippi swamps. No one should think of going South without visiting the Mammoth Cave, the great natural wonder of this continent. So much has been written of this world-famous wonder that it is impossible to say anything new in regard to it—it cannot be described; its caverns must bo explored, its darkness felt, its beauties seen, to be appreciated or realized. From Mobile to New Orleans (141 miles) the ride along the Gulf coast is alone worth the entire cost of the whole trip. In full sight of the Gulf all the way, past Ocean Springs, Mississippi City, Pass Christian, Bay St. Louis, and Beauvoir, the home of Jeff Davis. When you decide to go South make up your mind to travel over the line that passes through the best country and gives you the best places to stop'over. This is emphatically the Monon Route, in connection with the Louisville and Nashville and the Cincinnati Southern Railways. Pullman Palace Sleepers, Palace Coaches; double daily trains. Very Like a Tornado.
“Papa, what is a tornado ?” asked a youthful seeker after information. Glancing nervously around the room to see it the coast was clear, he said: “You have often heard your mother blowing me up for bringing company home without previously notifying her?” “Yes, sir.” “Well, that is as much like a tornado as anything I know of. But you needn’t tell your mother that I said so, however.” —New York Journal. Female car conductors are common objects in the towns of Chili.
