On its trial “set”, Will B. Austin’s incubator produced 175 chicks. The family of Prof. Reubelt, arrived in Rensselaer Monday evening- _ The W. C. T. U. will meet at the residence of Mrs. A. Purcupile, Friday afternoon of next week. k it extensive stock of new Clothing just received and opened out at Fendig’s. The Remington Fair will commence Tuesday, September Ist, and continue three days. A good programme is promised. Fendig has just received a superb lot of Boots and Shoes which he offers at prices to suit the times. Farmers are referred to Gran ville Moody, of Barkley township as to the responsibility of the ‘Home Nursery.’*
“Whoop! We’re the boys that done it!!” —In a horn. On the last Saturday of August, I will hold an examination foi admission to Purdue University. D. M. Nelson, Co. Supt’. Rev. B. F. Ferguson will preach at the F. W. Bactist church next Sabbath, at 10| o’clock, a. m. All invited. Our old Monticello friend W. Ed. Reynolds, called in to see us a few moments yesterday. His visit to Rensselaer was in the interest of the Monticello Wood Pulp Company- _ David J. Thompson, Esq., started yesterday for Indian River, north Michigan. Messrs. John L. and Sanford Makeever, in response to a telegram, a rived yesterday from Nebraska. Their father, Mr. Madison Makeever, is very ill. A daughter for Ben Tuteur, and a son for Peter Giver, last Friday. Both Democrats, and doing finely. The Ladies’ Literary Society will meet at the residence of Mrs. C. C. Starr, to-morrow (Saturday) at 1 o’clock p. m., hold a short memorial service, then proceed to the Court House and participate in the proceedings at that place. The members are earnestly requested to be promptly on hand. Work has commenced on the new brick building of Mr. Leopold, on she site recently occupied by Dr. Martin’s office. The building will be 20x75 and two storie? high. If you want good clothing at low figures, call and examine the large stock just opened out at Fendig’s. In the matter of supply, variety in styles, quality of goods, and low prices, Fendig can not be surpassed. All are invited to call, examstock and ascertain prices, before purchasing elsewhere. William, son of John B. Lefler of Hanging Grove township, died at his father’s residence last Sunday, aged about 20 years. But a short time has intervened since the death of a daughter occurred from the same disease—consumption. Mrs. Josh Jones and daughter Mary the other day confronted Justice Purcupile on the charge of milking cows not belonging to them. Mrs. J. was discharged, but Mary gave bail to answer at the Circuit Court. Senator Hoover visited Rensselaer Tuesday, and was the recipient of numerous and hearty congratulations from his constituents in this locality. The Township Trustees made their annual settlement with the County Commissioners Monday and Tuesday of this week. Thankful for the liberal patronage so far received, Mrs. E. Wilson respectfully invites a continuance, and she will exert herself to please in quality, styles and prices of goods.
