He Secured the Job.

The following advertisement appeared in a London paper: “Wanted—A man to take a position of trust, responsibility and great danger. Liberal pay to the right party; apply, etc.” The next day an individual applied for the place.— He was evidently in need of work if the state of his habiliment was any criterion from which to judge. Yet there was a business air about him that belied his looks. “I called, sir, in answer to the advertisement you put in the paper, sir. I think I can fill the bill in all its requirements, and having a large family on my hands, the liberal pay you offer is quite an inducement.” • “Ah, um, to be sure; but are you aware, sir, that this is a very hazardous undertaking? I want a watchman for my powder mills.” “Oh, is that all ? Then I’m your man. I’m not afraid of any explosions. I’m used to that sort of thing.” “Indeed,” in what way?” “I used to be a book agent in America.”—Brooklyn Times. “Sheol” may become popular in the polite circles of the east, but the cowboy of the rowdy west will stick to the old name.
