At a meeting of the citizens, held at the Court House, in Rensselaer, Wednesday evening last, it was resolved that we do celebrate, July 4th, 1885. Proper committees have the matter in charge. Harp, W. Snyder, Esq., and Dr. Patton, of Remington, attended Court this week, as witnesses. The lata George Kannal left no will. His estate will probably fcot up SIOO,OOO, and will be distributed among his legal heirs. Gayl. H. Chilcote has accepted a position as Solicitor of the Acme Copying Company, Chicago, and is in that city becoming acquainted with the duties of the position. K b’t McCune, at the residence of the bride’s sister, Mrs. Byron Haskett, Mr. James Ellis, senior of the firm of Ellis & Murray, Rensselaer, IncL, and Miss Jessie Dayhuff, of Kokomo, Ind. We extend congratulations and good wishies. “Jim” is fittting up the Grandma Spitler property for occupancy. Prof, and Mrs. Kirsch returned to Rensselaer Priday last. Miss Floy Powell is visiting friends in Remington. Charlie Price is announced to orate before the Masonic fraternity at St. Lawrence, Dakota, on St. John’s day, June 24th. Bissenden & Sons, painters, have located their paint shop in rooms west side Vanßensselaer street, north of Washington.
Children’s Day will be observed at the Cullen Street Baptist church, next Sunday evening, exercises beginning at 7:30 o’clock. The public cordially invited to attend. The W. C. T. U. will meet at Mrs. S. A. Henry’s June 23d, at 3 o’clock, p. m. to transact important business. All of the members and especially those of 188-1, are earnestly requested to attend. Constable William Lewis, of Liberty township, White county* Indiana, Thursday of last week attempted to take a horse in satifaction of a debt, when the defendant Allman struck the animal a smart blow causing it to double the officer over a barb-wire fence.
