Jim Morgan and family visited an uncle living near Palestine, last Sunday, when his horse took sick and died. A bouncing 14-pound boy gladdened the hearts of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Welsh, m Jordan township, last Friday. Our neighbor argues that “it requires clear thinking powers, quick judgment, and a good memory to play a complicated game of cards, in a skillfull manner,” and on the strength of Sheriff Sam Yeoman’s statement that Wartner beats the occupants of the jail in the game of “seven up,” concludes he is the possessor of all these qualifications. and therefore the sharpest, smartest man in the county bastile. Now we propose, as Brc. Marshall makes this science the test, that he engage the prisoner in a game of “progressive euchre,” to decide to which of them belong the honors. h Syl. Healey has a house on Front street, to rent, suitable for dwel - ing or business. Mr. Lobdell and his agents are here again making an active canvass for the sale of Fruit, Evergreen and Ornamental Trees, Flowers, Shrubbery, etc., from the Nurseries of Gilbert & Lobdell, Troy, Ohio. Their semi-annual visits to this locality is certainly evidence that the firm is reliable, and correct and liberal in dealing with patrons. Remember! that Nursery stock bought at the Rensselaer Nursery, being already acclimated, is best suit* ed to this locality, and the kind for you to buy. See ‘ad’ in another column.
The Republican is greatly distressed because the Supreme Court d dared the sentence of Wartner a nullity and void, and complains that the failure of the Gov. to commute the void sentence to imprisonment for life will result in a terrible expense to the taxpayers.— The course of the Republican is doing more toward directing censure on the proceedings had under Judge Ward, than in causing dissatisfaction with the action of the Supreme Court and the Governor. The Republican man can’t see beyond the end of his nose, and Judge Ward may well exclaim: “Save me from my friends!”
