Miss Clara Dexter, of Denver, Colorado, is visiting her brothers George and Harvey, in Rensselaer. John Burke and Frank Robinson, after securing titles to a quarter section each, in Kansas, returned to this place one day last week. Sheriff Yeoman has the temporary struture erected for the execution of Wartner. Rev. B. F. Ferguson will preach at the F. W. Baptist church, Sunday, May 10, at 11 o’clock, A. M. Judge Hammond will occupy the handsome r nd commodious rooms over Makeever’s Bank, as a law office. Tommy K ox has gone back to Chilicothe, Ohio. “A pleasant mannered and intelligent looking colored man,” is the loving, polite and high-toned reference of the “Kid” to a negro book agent. If it had been a white Democrat, the “kid” would have sugg sted to his readers that they refuse him permission to enter their houses. Will Harding, formerly a Rensselaer boy, now of Magnolia, Mississippi, called iu to see us one day this week. Mr. Charles Battleday and Miss Melissa A. Sayler were married at the residence of the officiating clergyman, Rev. B. F. Ferguson, in Rensselaer, May 6th. Syl. Healey has a house on Front street, to rent, suitable for dwelling or business. Our old friend, John G. Culp, is talking of selling his farm, on account of poor health of himself and wife. He has one of the best grain and stock farms in the county,- and is offering to sell on very reasonable terms. He has everything on the farm very convenient. It is probably not surpassed by any in the county for conveniences.

Mr. David Nowels and son Clias. D., are making quite an extended trip iu Arks nsas and Kansas The first named gentleman has a l ody of about 700 acres of land in Prairie county, Arkansas, which he will probably sell, when he and his son will njake a thorough inspection of southwestern Kansas, and if the country suits them, C. D. Nowels will make some investments, and he may make the southwest his future home. Lyman Zea, having disposed of his property is now engaged in ere ting his fifth house. The contending forces, in the Wartner dispute, are rallying to the front. Those who believe the proceedings all regular, are MarSHALing their reserves. ‘Kid’ Marshal, of the Republican, gives the lawyers of Rensselaer a complete snubbing, and the Chief Marshal of Keener ridicules them unmercifully. But they may be right. Who knows? Mrs. May Jordan, nee Boroughs, of Hammond, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Hale Warner, and old friends in Rensselaer. Mrs. Kirsch’s Elocutionary class will give a concert at the Opera House Saturday evening of next week. The newest and best styles of Millinery Goods at the new Millinery Store of Mrs. E. Jordan, of this place, who has been affl-cted long and seriously with cancer, after having been told by Chicago physicians that there whs no help for her, is slowly recovering under the treatment of Dr. C. M. Carter, of Lawrenceville, Illinois. The Doctor is to visit Mrs. Jordan again about the 13th of this of this month, aid will be at the Nowels House for thre • or four days, where all so afflicted can consult him withou charge.
