Hens as Gold Hunters.

The Nevada gold-seekers have discovered a new use for fowls. It is a common sight there to see men and women carrying a hen under one arm and a basket of chickens under the other. When they reach their destination the hens are picketed, and, being already hungry, begin to scratch and eat. After three or four days’ honest toil they are killed and their craws examined for gold.
